I've got a jh16/100...the deck won't go into play or record mode and stop switch stays lit.
The tape sensor engages but the capstan and pinch roller do not activate.
All other functions work in fast forward and rewind...stop button turns on and off in these modes as well.

I've reflowed the molex and reseated ICs...I get proper voltage on motherboard.
I've checked transistors in the MDA.

I've tried to wiggle the boards and such with no change in behavior.

If I remove the PLAY ic 7410n on the logic board the capstan and pinch roller both activate.

Thanks for all the help:)

You may have it sorted by now but I would look at the stop switch itself.
They have a habit of breaking in the on position.
